The Hoppediz Primeo is the only buckle carrier in Australia that is suitable for premature babies from 2.5kg yet still feels supportive for a toddler. Made of woven fabric that doesn't sag as your child grows, it was designed to be intuitive with unique features to make tightening easier on your body.

The Primeo is a full buckle carrier, but the shoulder straps behave like wrap straps. They cross over your back and fan out across your shoulders, which spreads your child's weight over a wider area.

You can set it up with the buckles already clicked in, then bring it over your baby, tighten and go. For a first carrier, that can make the difference between a carrier that feels completely overwhelming and one that feels simple. You're adjusting a carrier that's already on you, rather than trying to hold a newborn and work out buckles at the same time.

There are markings on the straps so you can find your setting again, which is useful if you're sharing the carrier between two wearers of different heights.

This is for you if:

  • You need a carrier for a premature baby. From those early days of skin to skin to toddler adventures, this one will grow with you.
  • You want buckles, but not the bulk of padding. Unpadded, fanned wrap straps spread the load across your shoulders
  • You want a carrier that crosses on your back. This one is designed to be worn with the straps crossed on your back.
  • You want something you can pre-set. Pop the carrier on with loose straps, bring baby to your body, spread the carrier over both of you, tighten and go.
  • Cost is a factor. The Primeo is significantly cheaper than most of the buckle carriers we sell.
  • You want to share. There are markings on the straps so you can find your setting again.
  • You're safety conscious. Tested to EU and ASTM safety standards. M-position support for healthy hip development.
  • Softness and luxury fabric is needed. Converted from organic cotton woven wrap fabric.

You might prefer something else if:

  • You want a carrier that lasts into preschool. The Primeo is suitable up to 15 kg, which is roughly two to three years for many children. Many of our other buckle carriers go to 20 kg. If your baby is already 12 months or is a heavy older baby, you might prefer something else.
  • You want padded straps. The fanned wrap straps are deliberately unpadded. If you want padded shoulder straps, the LennyLamb or Didymos buckle carriers might be what you're looking for.
  • You want a carrier with backpack style straps. This one is designed to be worn with the straps crossed on your back while front carrying. If your body anatomy prefers H / straight straps, you might prefer one of our other buckle carriers.
  • You know you will do lots of back carrying. Although you can definitely back carry in the Primeo, it really shines for front carry (including hip). You might find other buckle carriers feel more comfortable in a back carry over a long period.

      • Full buckle carrier. Clip and tighten; no tying.

      • Crossed, fanned wrap straps. Spread across your shoulders and back to distribute weight more evenly than narrow straps.

      • Pre-settable. Set it up, pop baby in, then tighten.

      • Markings on the straps. Find your setting again quickly when swapping between wearers.

      • Inbuilt hood for extra head support. Hood can be folded up and clipped in to provide extra head support, if needed.

      • Three carry positions. Front, hip and back.

      • Spread-squat seat. Knees higher than bottom, which is the position you want for healthy hip development.

      • Waist to 165 cm. One size fits most.

      • Safety certified. ASTM F2236-16a and 16 CFR 1226.

      Is the Primeo suitable from birth?
      Yes, it is actually suitable for premature babies from 2.5kg. The hood can provide extra head support until your baby can hold their head up on their own.

      Up to what age or weight can I use it?
      It is safety tested up to 15kg.

      What does "fanned straps" actually mean?
      The shoulder straps aren't narrow padded straps. They're wider, unpadded panels of fabric that spread out across your shoulders and back, closer to how a woven wrap sits. The idea is more surface area, so less pressure in any one spot. Some people find this more comfortable than padding; some prefer the structure of a padded strap. It's a genuine preference thing, which is why trying it helps.

      What's the difference between the LennyLamb carriers or DidyFix and the Primeo?
      All are ergonomic, high quality carriers, but they serve different needs.

      The LennyLamb and DidyFix carriers have more narrow, padded straps. They can be worn in both straight (H) and crossed (X) configuration. They are not suitable for premature or low birthweight babies and are suitable from 3.2-3.5kg.

      Does it come with a hood? Yes, it has an inbuilt hood that can be used for additional neck support and/or sun protection.

      Is it hip-healthy? Yes. The Primeo supports a hip healthy M'-position. It seats baby with knees higher than bottom in a spread-squat position, the recommended position for healthy hip development. It is tested to EU and ASTM safety standards.

      Can two carers share one carrier? Yes. Fully adjustable straps and buckles mean you can quickly customise the fit to suit different bodies. There are markers on the straps so that you can remember which setting suits your body.

      Why are different colours different prices? Hoppediz carriers come in different fabric blends, weaves and weights. Pricing is affected by the fabric you have chosen.

      Is the Primeo good for summer? Yes, it is lightweight but your fabric choice can mean it is even better for summer. Lighter fabrics and linen blends are even more breathable. The lower the gsm, the thinner the fabric.
