I've been back carrying my baby since around 6 months so I'm quite familiar with going from the front and turning bub around and onto my back, as per the default instruction for the ombuhimo up.
However at one of Kiki's in person workshops Kiki showed me how to put the ombuhimo on a chair, sit bub on it and and up we went! It was so much simpler than the SSC I was using at the time!
We were nearly but not quite at toddler size yet then, but the thought of such a simple, compact carrier stayed with me for months. And when the growth spurt hit, I snagged this beautiful ombuhimo.
Now that it's part of our carry options, on top of it being so light and soft yet sturdy, I love how easily it can be adjusted for both myself and my husband to carry him. I also love how the straps hang really high and don't get caught on much even if it's usually hanging out for ease of parent swapping.
I did notice that it is a steeper learning curve for my husband as this is the first carrier he's used for back carrying. However once bub is up they are both comfortable :)
Kiki made buying this from her sale so seamless and easy! I ordered it as a last minute decision late at night and cheekily messaged the next day to ask if I could pick it up that afternoon- to which her answer was, of course! We took it on holiday with us the day after & it literally carried us through the entire holiday without a pram! It hasn’t taken long for my shoulders to get used to the weight and I can now carry my 12kg boy comfortably for over an hour! The support from Kiki with fit checks & advice has been outstanding. I’m looking forward to buying from Cloth and Carry again soon!!
Didn’t take long to get used to it and we love it. Bubba can look over my shoulder and the carrier is so small, it can easily just be brought in my normal bag for ‘just in case’.
Kiki was so kind to order in the size/style carrier I wanted to try. The try before you buy option was incredibly helpful and easy to navigate.
Kiki also offered to help with making sure i was happy with how the carrier fit etc.
Every time I’ve ordered from (or interacted with) cloth and carry, Kiki has gone above and beyond and just made it the best experience.
The Onbuhimo is a fantastic carrier and just what our family needed!
Vibrant colour, quality material, very functional to use compared to front-carry, baby loves it while snacking on bread, babbling and looking around (baby is 9-10 months). It's tricky to get on initially (I use a sofa), or when in a park I might awkwardly lie on the ground on top of him - I'm working on that - but once on, baby doesn't tire easily. I'm not finding the tiredness issue on my shoulders as others reported, it might be because our walks are shorter (20 mins) and he's under 10kg at the moment. I much prefer this than having my shorts kicked down in the front carrier!
While still rating it highly, I'd say areas of improvement might be:
- An easier method of getting the hood on and/or larger hood
- The buckles at the front to not loosely fall down the straps, as it can be fiddly finding them with them being black and therefore blending in with the other dangling bits.
